Hotels and apartments…..can they look the same?

sofitel so

I am fortunate enough to have just returned from BKK and was lucky enough to have stayed at the Sofitel So for a few nights – what a cool hotel that was!   I do always wonder if I could live in such a cool room for more than a week though.

However, when I get home from a trip, I always arrive back into my apartment and think about ways that I could make it more funky, less cluttered and most definitely less like a rental.

In the real estate business we often get asked about décor inspiration and where to find the best places to shop for furniture in Hong Kong.  There are so many posts I could do about this because the possibilities are endless!  So I thought I’d start with three of my favourite interior websites that I like to read – if you are a Pinterest addict you are going to love these!

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com

An oldie but a goodie.  Apartment Therapy is a wonderful resource for anyone looking for home design inspiration – the mantra of this site is that basic elements of home design can be learnt by all and, most importantly for us, does not necessarily require buckets of money or space.  I love the projects section (although will readily admit I am yet to bring any of these to life – blame the work-life balance here!).  Don’t forget to check out the ‘small spaces’ section too.

If you’re here for the long haul then this is THE website for you.  If you want someone else to help you with design you can do it all online at a really reasonable cost.  Just fill in the style questionnaire, send through some pictures of the room you want to make-over and a designer will get back to you with two style options – which they then help refine with your feedback.  Alternatively logon to their blog or the ask a designer a question page for free!

I thought it would be a good idea to throw in a fellow Hongkonger into the mix!  Although there’s lots of HK blogs out there (including my own!)  JJ Acuna’s blog is regularly updated with all things life and style in the Kong.  An Architect and Interior Designer, there’s a whole section devoted to design (amongst lots of other mouth-watering F&B review and fashion envious entries!) – find the property inspo by clicking the design tab at the top of the home page.

I will be lying on a beach next week so depending…….it may be two weeks until my next post!

Cheers
