What a week I had! Those of you who follow me on social media will be aware, I had my first business trip into China last week…..I flew off to Shanghai (on a Sunday?!) for my first JLL Asia Pacific Leadership Conference – wow – what a trip it was – it took me nearly 15 hours to travel 1226 kilometers……..by plane! Being a positive person, I will not go into the details of the delays but all I can say is thank goodness for colleagues with access to Business Class Lounges!
Despite the challenging travel, I was still excited about going to Shanghai for the first time in 25 years as well as having the opportunity to meet other JLLers from around the region.
What a brilliant event. It had a real ‘East meets West’ feel which you all know I love the concept of. The presentations were not only informative but were inspiring about all that JLL has achieved and what we will continue to deliver to our clients in the coming years.
On the Monday evening, I had the amazing opportunity and honour of announcing the JLL Pinnacle Awards. 7 awards that are given to colleagues around the region to recognise their contribution. I do have to admit it was EXTREMELY nerve wracking to be onstage in front of 500 of my fellow colleagues, especially as I had spent the allotted rehearsal time stuck in HK (albeit in the lounge!) but what an experience.
On the final night, JLL added to its skyline presence – not only are we on the HK skyline but also the Shanghai skyline.
It is commonly known that JLL is the leader in the commercial real estate market and it was refreshing to see and hear that the residential business was next on our list in more markets than one. Other initiatives that are close to my heart were also at the forefront of the conference – yes you got it – Diversity and Technology.
There is no denying that Diversity and Inclusion is important to me and it is always a relief to know that you are working for an organization who genuinely believes the same.
OK I will admit, I am not very good at the Technology part and I am a believer that people are key to the success of JLL and any real estate company but there is no denying that Technology is something we all will have to get to grips with.
Take a quick look at the video of me trying to work some of the amazing technology we were shown in the Tech Zone. I was assured that it was ‘just like a mouse’ and wouldn’t take long for me to get to grips with. When I showed the video to my 13 year old, he had a little giggle and also assured me that it wouldn’t take long!
Here is to the amazing ability of our children to change quicker than we shall ever be able to and to Diversity and Technology.
Have a great week everyone.
