Happy Year of the Rooster

Although I’m still full from all the hearty Christmas feasts and new year’s dinners, yet another one of my favourite gourmet holidays is coming up in just a couple days. In preparation for welcoming the Year of the Rooster, I have done my annual spring cleaning, put up my lucky red door couplets and replaced my Christmas tree with a fresh and fragrant kumquat tree! Finally, my perfect Chinese New Year celebrations cannot be complete without some delicious traditional foodie delights, such as turnip cake (lor bak go), water chestnut cake (maa tai gou) and glutinous rice cake (nian gao).

I’ve picked out my go to places where you can snap some of these treats up to gift your friends and family – along with a generous lai see packet of course!

1. Fook Lam Moon

This year, the iconic Cantonese restaurant has expanded their CNY offerings to include: Glutinous Rice Cake, Turnip Cake with Cured Meat, Taro Cake with Cured Meat, Guo Fu Lou Jujube Cake and Water Chestnut Cake. Authentically prepared and beautifully packaged, you really can’t go wrong with any one of their delicious treats!

2.Dynasty, Renaissance Hotel

Having received Crave Magazine’s Bite of Distinction award just last week, Dynasty Restaurant is known to do their Chinese New Year pudding and turnip cake flawlessly. Handcrafted by a team of talents chefs, their creations are always a popular choice, especially in my household!

For those who are looking for a slightly more western taste, The innovative operators of The Cakery reinvented some of their organic, gluten-free goodies into delicious Chinese new year treats, including CNY character cake pops, Mandarin macaroons, cherry blossom cookies and many more!

Don’t forget to dress in your brightest red clothing and put on your shiniest new jewellery this weekend! From all of us here at JLL Residential, we wish you a prosperous Year of the Rooster! Kung Hei Fat Choi! 雞年快樂!! 恭喜發財!!
